You may be dealing with a caller that could endanger you or your family, so a situation like this is when it would nice to have a free directory where you could easily trace where the call is coming from. Though some callers who will not or do not identify themselves are harmless, you won't know that until you know who they are.
However, when you have the number and not the name, the process is a bit different. Once you realize there's no such thing as a free phone directory the quicker you will find the info you are looking for. Some sites offer both of these services while others simply offer one or the other.
Or it could be a pestering neighbor or enemy in your area, who is crank calling. I have seen websites out there that claim to not to charge but you end up paying in the end. All of the different cell service providers would contribute their numbers, and the numbers would be made available.
Cell numbers are typically harder to track down and you won't find them in a free service. Don't be afraid to take advantage of what is out there.
